8/5/10

Just a minor update. "Full of Surprises" is now in the Infinities section at 22 BBY. (Thanks Luke!) I may have more updates to come.

7/15/10

I've written a little blog-type entry on the Latest News page as to what the hold-up has been with me making updates like I'd been doing. I appreciate all your terrific patience with me during this time.

5/01/10

Thanks for the heads-up from Lucas Geurts, I shifted the Tales from Jabba's Palace story, "A Boy and His Monster" to after chapter 16 of Rebel Dawn. Maybe now, poor Bidlo Kwerve can rest in peace.

4/29/10

Thanks to the intel brought to me by Plaristes, who noted that Wild Space only leaves a week from the time of TCW film to the latter novel (and that time spent on Coruscant), I've moved Shipyards of Doom out of that period to just before The Malevolence trilogy (which the end of Shipyards leads into anyway.)

4/28/10

The fourth Lost Tribe of the Sith short is up on Starwars.com. It takes place at 4975 BBY. Thanks to Luke for the heads-up!

4/24/10

The new Old Republic webcomic is up, and it looks good. This time they're doing a whole issue instead of just two or three pages at a go. I've added it to the year 3678.

4/19/10

After a bit of a hiatus, I finally added Crosscurrent to the 5,000 BBY mark, setting it where it properly goes, in the midst of The Fall of the Sith Empire series. I added a piece of news on the soon-to-be-announced Star Wars blu-ray boxed set.

I also added all the recent and upcoming Clone Wars episodes, including putting back the three Mandalore episodes. With an official retcon being worked on and likely to appear in the forthcoming Imperial Commando book, there's no real reason to keep them in Infinities. But it felt good for awhile! ;)

Also, once again, I shifted things a bit so that no one month is so jam-packed it stretches credulity. True, Star Wars is fantasy-based and these characters have a storehouse of energy most of us could only dream of, but I still think its best to keep things as close to our human reality as possible. After all, there are still days of the week and hours of the day, and these guys need to sleep just like everyone else (true, Jedi can get by on meditation techniques, but you get my point). Once Filoni and Chee settle on an official timeline, we'll arrange things again, but for now this will do.

I also added the two latest Galactic Timeline entries for The Old Republic, which is proving to be rather interesting. Keep your eyes open for an upcoming trade paperback collection of the online comics, and two companion novels to the game! Also, check out the official site for the excellent short story, "Smuggler's Vanguard" about a young Hylo Visz (which I've placed at 3667). Thanks to Mike Brennan for the heads up!

Obviously, there's still more updates I need to make, and Luke and a few of you have been keeping me covered and motivated. I have a small window of time which I'll use to at least bring things up to speed before I have to stop and let them all slip by me again. But hey, that's life! Unless life throws me a happy surprise, I don't expect to be writing any books after the one I'm currently doing (and yes, that would be famous last words).

3/6/10

Best laid plans... There's still much more updating to do, and as y'all can see, I'm a bit behind. I expected to do a part 2 to that, but was waylaid by losing heat in the house until a little earlier today. Thankfully, we're all warm again! :)

Updates to come...

3/4/10

Well, it took a little longer than anticipated, but I've made some minor updates, including an addition to Infinities (see N/A), and covers from the latest Clone Wars issues, the latest Lego Clone Wars magazine, the recent KOTOR issues, Crosscurrent and even Blood Oath (for posterity's sake). I've added links to the latest Lost Tribe of the Sith shorts in 5,000 BBY. The Colossus of Destiny is up at 6 months ABG, so placed by me (since there's no internal indicator except "in the first years" b/c I think it's plausible that Mace's behavior (and the way Yoda speaks to him) is a direct result of his ordeal on Hal Karuun (in Shatterpoint).

I also added the Diplomatic Corps Entrance Exam to 17 ABY (appropriately after the Exam author's novel, The New Rebellion.)

There's a few people to thank for keeping me up to date: Travis Smith, Barb Natividad, Eddie Van Der Heidjen and last, but not least, Luke Van Horn. Thanks guys!

Since I'm up and fooling around, I put the fourth Xim piece back at 671 BBY when it was performed. The other three I've left in their respective locations as they more closely approximate historical aspects of Xim's life. I also added Star Tours to Infinities, and the Star Wars Intergalactic Passport to 4 ABY.

2/10/10

There's a lot to update, but fear not it'll get done. I've been fortunate enough to have been given some help from a few dedicated fans (thanks guys) and have saved their emails for when it's time. We're supposed to get a foot of snow tomorrow, so perhaps then. I might need a short break from my book anyway to clear my head.

1/31/10

Episodes 12-14 of the Clone Wars animated series have been moved to Infinities.

1/08/10

Some minor updates: KOTOR 46, 47 covers are up. Some of the Clone Wars covers are up (my local comic shop missed one!), the recent Purge, FOTJ: Imprint, Legacy and Invasion covers. Added The Essential Atlas to 41 ABY and its epilogue to 137 ABY. Added The History of Xim and the Tion Cluster to 10 ABY (and pages 8-10 to 137 ABY).

Thanks to Simon and Jim for their help, and everyone else for their patience!

12/27/09

New Alex Winger story up at 13 ABY (from Hyperspace)

12/21/09

Nothing major. Adjusted the Despotica dates to when they were composed (since they're historicity is in question and they are plays). Also added the date as to when Skynx wrote his history of Xim to 9ABY (as per the author). Finally, I added the last few Clone Wars episodes and a new Infinities Lego Clone Wars storyline.

12/09/09

Both Dex stories are now placed, Appetite for Adventure (in CW Adventures #9) and the new Hyperspace exclusive, Dining at Dex's, at 23 BBY.

Also, in adding the ancient play from the new Hyperspace exclusive: Xim Week: The Despotica: Part II: The Pirate Prince, I've moved back the timeline to 25,200, where our first fiction piece takes place (or in this case was composed). I haven't yet created a separate Ancient History page (one story doesn't justify the page), but perhaps as more tales are forthcoming in this nebulous period I will.

I don't yet know when the frame story of this or the History of Xim (which must take place afterwards since he references Skynx's work). The former must be before 10 ABY which is when Skynx gets his chroma-wings, which he doesn't yet have when he wrote his history.

Thanks again to Plaristes for the heads-up! Lots of exciting developments on Hyperspace this week!

11/29/09

Finally got around to adding "Deader than a Triton Moon": 1 BBY and 11 BBY (flashback). Jason Fry has said the frame story takes place around A New Hope, which we all know can mean anytime from 1 BBY to 1 ABY. I chose a few months BBY.

11/16/09

Thanks to Eddie, I fixed the placement of "Light and Shadow" to after The Sith War storyline (where I also now placed "The Sith War" entry from TEGTTF: Jedi vs. Sith.

11/08/09

Every once in awhile you find a better way of doing things. After retooling the layout of The Clone Wars animated series, it still looked clunky and crowded. Now it follows the Droids and Ewoks animated series layout (which got some tweaking as well), and is a lot easier to read and comprehend. I also tried to make Wild Space's interpolation of "Downfall of a Droid" (episode 6 of The Clone Wars) a bit tighter. Also, I fixed the placement of the new webcomic ("Act on Instinct"). Thank you again Plaristes!

11/07/09

The Old Republic: Threat of Peace: Act III: Uncertain Surrender is now available online. And good news: Dark Horse will be collecting these in Spring 2010 in a graphic novel along with some exclusive extras!

11/05/09

Minor update. Added links and image of the new Clone Wars Complete Season One DVD, and spread out the episodes a little more evenly over months 7 and 8. Also added some HNN reports and two Cartoonnetwork.com videos to season 9. Thanks again to Plaristes for making it a lot easier to update with all the glut of Clone Wars promos everywhere!

Luke keeps finding good stuff! I also just added some cool NRI reports from an online supplement to the game Jedi Knight II: Outcast. That's been placed at 11 ABY.

11/04/09

Thanks to a number of leads and some prompting from Plaristes, I added some of the Star Wars Galaxies fiction pieces (see 1 ABY). I've decided to place source fiction under its own category (called appropriately "source fiction"), as well as source material, in each appropriate date. I know that sounds like I'm going back to the "circa" method of chronologizing (that's a neologism, but hey, there's not a lot of words for what we do), but the truth is I just can't get around the notion that these very separate stories attached to specific events on specific worlds (in-universe), attached to specific campaigns of specific game-systems (out-of-universe) clog up the timeline and confuse people more than anything else. Especially is this true with something like the Galaxies fiction pieces which are only pieces of stories that are connected to events in the game itself, which the non-player isn't going to understand. I think it's great there are fiction stories for some of these campaigns, but unless they're properly fleshed out for non-gamers, they serve little purpose other than to enrich the experience of gamers. And I don't see that they should be scattered about the timeline as if they were legitimate stories that have a beginning, middle and end. These can still be placed in their proper timeline-context without clogging things up, and with a nice designation that explains what they are to us non-gamers. It's an improvement from the "circa" designation (which had been used for everything that didn't involve known characters), but perhaps not quite a fully equal system for everything that some of you wanted. I'm all for equal rights for human-beings of all stripes, but not so much for stories, especially when they're not even proper stories, but pieces of some RPG or MMORPG that even the hardcore EU reader won't be able to make heads-or-tails of on his own without having played the game. It seems like a good system anyway. We'll see. I'm still some time away from actually placing all those (especially the mountain of West End Games material), but I haven't forgotten.

I also added (finally -- thanks again for the reminder, Luke) Ben's letters to Jaina. These exclusives are long gone, by the way. Hopefully they'll get a nice reprint somewhere. If anyone needs them in the meantime, drop me a line.

I also added the exclusive script read at Fan Days III, which serves as a prequel to tonight's Clone Wars episode "Landing at Point Rain". There's a hyperlink to it, so check that out.

Finally, I added some KOTOR-related RPGs from the Wizards of the Coast site, a head-start for what I'll eventually do for the entire 'history' section of the timeline. I'll also add a separate RPG page (kind of like the separate Infinities page) just so that you guys have a chronological check-list of things. I'll probably do that for the source material/source fiction stuff as well (we'll see if there's interest in that).

But hey! Today was a big update! There won't be another for awhile, but I'll keep y'all abreast.

Oh, ok, one more thing. I added the final Hunt for R2-D2 comic and the new Quest for R2-D2 mini-movies and games at www.starwars.lego.com. Check it out, corporal.

And while I was at it, I added an older Lego Magazine, with the story "Asteroid Ambush" which basically adapts the asteroid chase of Jango Fett and Obi-Wan from Attack of the Clones, as well as the placement and cover of the excellent Imperial Commando: 501st (first month after Revenge of the Sith).

10/26/09

I guess when you least expect it, I do an overhaul, this time to The Clone Wars animated series. With the upcoming DVD release, it needed a slightly different format. I think it looks much neater and clearer this way, so much so that I updated the Droids and Ewoks (season 1 only) entries to somewhat match it... not entirely, as there are still no season DVDs out (apparently Lucas doesn't mind losing money to bootleg copies). I also added the recent Clone Wars episodes and fixed the position of the three-part webcomic.

10/25/09

I added Death Troopers to the point in-between chapters 9 and 10 in Rebel Dawn (of The Han Solo Trilogy), as well as the book's ancillary elements (Twitter and Random House posts). Thanks to Rob Mullin for the placement suggestion.

Update: I added the nine individual letters since they direct to seven different websites. This should make it easier to track down (as the links from each individual site only goes to sites' main pages and not directly to the pages where the letters are). If the paperback version of the book doesn't contain each of the letters (and the Twitter feeds), I'm considering compiling all of them here for archival purposes and just in case any of the sites go down or lose their older pages or links (which I know would never happen since that's so out of the realm of possibility). Thanks to Luke for the heads up.

10/24/09

Not a lot of updates from me these days. I'm in the second draft of my book (www.blacksabbathlyrics.net) and necessarily focusing my attention there. I did just add the new Galactic Timeline entry at swtor.com, this one The Battle of Bothawui.

I also finished the excellent Death Troopers! (The author has announced he's writing a prequel for!) and will figure out where that goes (2 or 1 BBY) shortly.

9/27/09

Finally picked up Ryder Windham's new book: A New Hope: The Life of Luke Skywalker. Really good stuff, in here! I started adding some dates in young Luke's life. More to come. Update: That's complete! Lots of new stories in Luke's life and some nice surprises!

9/26/09

Added the new Clone Wars videogame (Republic Heroes) to the 9th month. All I know is that it takes place in-between seasons. You guys already know, but it bears repeating that my placements of these things are all subject to change once Filoni and/or LFL put together an official timeline. It's also subject to change when I go back and rewatch everything on DVD. There's a ton of new Clone Wars material that's been put out. Exciting, yes, but not always easy to stay on top of when you're working overtime on your own projects. Put the fiddles away, I just wanted to point it out. All that matters is this: The new Clone Wars series has to take place in the year 22 BBY, but after all the books and comics which have been forcibly moved to earlier in the year (b/c Anakin's not a knight in those). So I'm giving each of the new CW seasons about a month/month and a half each. If they suddenly bump it up to year 21 BBY, then I'll see about stretching things out.

9/24/09

After what feels like a century, Hyperspace posted two old Adventure Journal stories: "The Longest Fall" and "Betrayal by Knight". For those of you who still have Hyperspace memberships, enjoy, and let's hope it's the start of a new trend, and not just a one-off.

9/21/09

Lots of new covers added: KOTOR 44 & 45, Clone Wars #7 & 8, Dark Times #0 & 14, Invasion #1 & 2, and Legacy #39.

9/13/09

Still playing catch up. Now I finally added covers for Lego Magazine's Star Wars comics (more to come) and the two recent Star Wars Adventures digests, of which I placed the newest one, Princess Leia and the Royal Ransom in the year 2 ABY.

9/12/09

Added the new Starwars.com game and it's comic one-page bonus: The Clone Wars: Droids Over Iego (you can read the bonus comic here).

9/6/09

Added the new Galactic Timeline: Record 004: The Empire Changes Strategy to 3664 BBY. Another great entry by Lance Henriksen.

8/14/09

Lots of changes, updates and new items on the Upcoming page. Also added cover for the new Old Republic mini-comic: "Threat of Peace", which compiles the first five issues of the online series.

8/12/09

Added info for the upcoming Omnibus: Shadows of the Empire, which will carry Shadows of the Empire #1-6, Shadows of the Empire: Evolution #1-5 and Mara Jade: By the Emperor's Hand #1-6. Added the upcoming Crosscurrent to just after the LOTF series. Added a little commentary on the Latest News page about the recent fiasco over Karen Traviss departure and the Clone Wars controversy.

8/09/09

Added covers for Legacy, KOTOR, Invasion, and Clone Wars. Also added covers for the new Clone Wars titles: Jedi in Training (after Cloak of Darkness), Captured (adaptation of Dooku Captured), Decide your Destiny 2: The Lost Legion, The Battle for Ryloth (adaptation of the Ryloth trilogy) and the UK only Journey Through Hyperspace (after Crash Course)

8/06/09

Added an older Lego Magazine to the Infinities roster, this time the Sep-Oct 2006 short comic "Sail Barge Break Out!"

7/23/09

Added cover images of the newest Lego BrickMaster magazine and the first three Lego Club magazine. The LearningPath Clone Wars book "Rescue in the Sky" and the sketch cover edition of Dark Times #1.

7/18/09

Added "Lost Tribe of the Sith: Skyborn" to right after "Precipice". That's subject to change on the 21st when it's released if it's revealed to take place some years later, but from the preview it seems to take place shortly afterwards.

Also, the upcoming Blood Oath's release date has been settled on March 23, 2010, alongside JW Rinzler's much anticipated, The Making of Star Wars: Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. Check out Upcoming for updated release dates.

Finally, I added the latest Galactic Timeline on www.swtor.com: The Return of the Mandalorians.

7/11/09

Thanks to Brad Berger for providing me the missing covers for KOTOR and Legacy. Now the cover gallery is complete! Thanks man!

I also added the last two Clone Wars: Slaves of the Republic covers and the rare #1 variant.

7/01/09

I finally got around to updating KOTOR and Legacy (as well as Dark Times). I do know I'm missing one of each cover (that's b/c of my transition to the new comic book shop, which I may drop for www.mycomicshop.com instead. We'll see). I also added the new Clone Wars digest: The Wind Raiders of Taloraan to month 9, but as with all of the Clone Wars material these days, it's anyone's guess.

6/25/09

Added more LegoComics to the list and the print ones from Lego Club Magazine. Thanks Plaristes!

6/19/09

Added Starwars.com's Gunship over Florrum video game after the webcomic, Hunting the Hunters in month 9 ABG.

6/15/09

No big news, just added the last CW webstrip and episode 22 of the CW, which I'd forgotten. Thanks Janek for the reminder. As we enter the final six months of '09, my focus on the book I'm writing is going to intensify, so if you guys see any omissions, by all means drop me a line! I appreciate it!

6/03/09

Added the latest Hyperspace Exclusive (a continuation from the Galaxy of Fear series): Death in the Slave Pits of Lorrd.

6/02/09

Moved the new No Prisoners novel to just after the Clone Wars episode, "Duel of the Droids". Thanks to Plaristes!

5/28/09

Added Ryder Windham's upcoming Clone Wars: Secret Missions, book 1: Breakout Squad to immediately after the episode "Destroy Malevolence". I also updated the release schedule and added the new ebook, Lost Tribe of the Sith: Precipice. (Update: Moved to after Golden Age of the Sith -- Thanks Jim!) Click on the link to get it for free (while it's available).

5/17/09

Well, give a big thanks to Brad Berger for giving me a proper update of the things I've missed in the last few months while my attention's been elsewhere. More proof positive of what I've been saying for years that without you guys, this site wouldn't be half as a good! Thank you, Brad, for the eagle eyes and hard work!

I also added the new Galactic Timeline entry: Record 002: Mandalorian Blockade is Broken. Worth checking out! I really dig what they're doing there.

5/14/09

Again, no major updates, but the new Rebel Force book is forcing me (no pun intended) to move things around, which is always fun (read: annoying) in this era. The book has ambiguous timing, alternately going listing "weeks" and "months" since the Battle of Yavin. Note to Alex Wheeler (or Jude Watson or whoever you are): "Just leave any reference to dates out, please!" I'm not sure if the author's aware of just how loaded time-period really is! At any rate, the actual dating of the book has to be determined by its events, and in this case there are aspects that require it's placement before and after certain other events in the newspaper strips and Marvel series. Right now, I'm moving Luke's first return to Tatooine (in Tatooine Sojourn) up so that it's before the first Rebel Force book. Likewise, the series has to be before Fixer sells out Luke in Marvel #31: "Return to Tatooine". If there's any other major shifts or causes for complaint, I'll let you know...

5/09/09

No major updates; just moved Han Solo and the Hollow Moon of Khorya to 1 BBY as per Leland's directive to Dark Horse (before they had a chance to change the date internally). It's still post-Han Solo and the Lost Legacy and in the midst of Rebel Dawn, so there's not much chance. I also added Star Wars Invasion, which came online on the 8th.

Apologies for the lack of updates, but I have to give all my energies to the book I'm writing. It's non-Star Wars related, and in fact, non-fiction, but beyond that I'm not yet ready to discuss it, save to say that it's the reason I've had to take a break from SW for a bit. I'll try and make the minimum number of updates as well, but as I also changed comic-book shops recently, there's a lag period with new comics. Things should hopefully go back to normal schedule in time.

4/05/09

Much thanks to Plaristes, I corrected Grievous Attacks! to include Clone Wars episode 7: Duel of the Droids. Also, episode 8's Bombad Jedi is adapted in the book of the same name and Jar Jar's Big Day (not episode 12's The Gungan General which I mistakenly had)!

4/01/09

Changed the date of 3656 to 3653 and added the Old Republic's interactive timeline (which has video story content) on www.swtor.com to that date.

3/16/09

With the upcoming Star Wars Adventures: Han Solo and the Hollow Moon of Khorya set at 2 BBY (there's a preview of it up on Amazon.com), I'm going to place it between Han Solo's Revenge and Han Solo and the Lost Legacy for now. There's some time in that period in which Han and Chewie ran around a bit, so that could work.

3/13/09

Added new CW webcomic and episode.

3/11/09

Added the upcoming Omnibus tags to Star Wars #27: "Starcrash"; Star Wars: The Hunt for Aurra Sing; Star Wars: Jedi Quest #1–#4; Star Wars Starfighter: Crossbones #1–3; Star Wars Episode II Hasbro Minicomics #1–4; Dark Horse Extra #35–37: "Heart of Fire" ; Dark Horse Extra #44-47: “Poison Moon.”

Also added new kids' Clone Wars adaptations to the timeline.

3/06/09

Sorry, no major updates (except for adding CW Lego #8 -- big deal!) Been preoccupied with a non-related project that's a bit time-consuming. Hope to get back to the site's updates sometime soon.

2/28/09

Added the new Clone Wars episodes and webcomics, and fixed the episode numbers (#15 on). Also added the first issue of Old Republic: Threat of Peace in the Sith era.

2/19/09

Nothing major. Just added the new Lego Clone Wars video. I did get a bunch of the new DK CW books. I'll see if I can scan and notate them tomorrow. My attention's a bit taken up these days with to a non-SW related project I'm working on. But I'll try and do a little SW updating in between.

2/14/09

Update of the updates page! It was time for something a little different. There's not only this site's standard left-side banner on this page now, but an additional link to this page on the left-side banner of every other page which should make navigating here much quicker. (Thanks Chaz for the tip). Now if only I actually update this more often...

2/13/09

Added The Valley webcomic to month 8 ABG. Also added the title for the fourth Fate of the Jedi book: Backlash, and the change in status to Deathtroopers (which is now a hardcover) on the upcoming page.

2/09/09

Added the breakdown for the Downfall of a Droid adaptation (in Grievous Attacks). Added a few CW covers, but there's more to come in a week's time.

2/08/09

Sorry, got ambushed again! Minor changes and additions, including some recent announcements about the upcoming online prequel comics to BioWare's upcoming Old Republic video game. According to the report, the comics span from the signing of the Treaty of Coruscant (3656 BBY) till three decades later when the game begins (which is now apparently 3626 BBY). Don't be surprised if those numbers get modified.

More updates to come as I square away some more of the Clone Wars books that just came out by Grosset & Dunlap. I added some of the adaptation info to the appropriate episodes in question. It's a nice throwback to the old Droids and Ewoks series (which also had illustrated novella adaptations). Hopefully we'll see more of these.

Updates: I added the flashbacks from final Legacy of the Force book Invincible. There are three in total, the prologue and interlude between chapters 10 and 11 go during the Young Jedi Knight series, and the interlude between chapters 19 and 20 which goes during the New Jedi Order book Dark Tide II: Ruin.

1/17/09

Ok, after a bit of a hiatus in which I got ambushed by clones, droids, Ewoks and Shadowtroopers (not to mention other projects that I'm still involved in), I'm going to try and get back to the progress I was making at the end of year 2 BBY. When last we left off Han was still in the corporate sector, the Rebel Alliance was formerly born and Jabba and his aunt were up to no good. As I move into the ever more crowded 1 BBY section, I've divided the year into two six month periods. Now, I'm basically doing this to cut down on the clutter of this year. But that's going to mean I'm using some creative decision-making in terms of what goes where. Lots of older stories didn't make distinctive timeline divisions (which in some ways was for the best). In those cases, stories that don't take place immediately before A New Hope will, unless there's evidence otherwise, go in the first six months of the year. The rest will go in the latter. At the moment, it seems like a good enough plan, but we'll see what happens when I'm actually in that year.

1/13/09

The threat is realized and I've moved all the Ewoks materials back to where I first thought they belonged. And since I had already moved the Droids cartoons (see the 11/10/08 entry) and cartoons to this period, a retcon is provided for the rather nonsensical time-travel crossover in the Ewoks/Droids comics (see below), as well as allowing Cindel time to grow up and become the reporter we see in the Black Fleet Crisis. Thanks again to Rob Mullin for providing good evidence and a helpful list of pros and cons. Here's the rundown:

Cons:

a. The Endor entry in TSWIU seems to imply the events of the Ewok films take place post-TESB as this in-universe story references a battle of Hoth.

It's my estimation/retcon that it was a battle against smugglers or pirates, and not the later Battle of Hoth that will be fought against the Rebellion.

b. The age of Wicket. While it's a little hard to tell the ages of the Ewoks, Wicket hasn't grown much in those years if it really is supposed to be that far before the films.

I figure the Ewoks have growth spurts. Or Wicket's just a shorter Ewok.

c. Morag's presence in the MMORPG Galaxies. This is a non-issue. Neither I, nor many fans view the events of this game as canon, and there are numerous discrepancies with the EU.

Pros:

a. More time to prepare for an Imperial presence.
b. It would allow the retconning of the time-travel crossover in the Droids and Ewoks comic, essentially showing that R2 and 3PO moved in space, but not in time -- 3PO's been shown to have suffered bouts of delusion before. Perhaps the unexplained journey to Endor (space wormhole) screwed him up. It's also early enough that sudden arrival and departure could be viewed as miraculous and allow a legend to grow up around him (though why R2 isn't included in this idolatry since he was there with 3PO is a retcon that hasn't yet been made clear. Have fun with that fix!)
3. It would harmonize with the intention of the editor of the comics, who noted that these events were "before Star Wars ever happened."
4. It would allow Cindel Towani to be an appropriately aged reporter by the time of the Black Fleet Crisis.

1/12/09

Thanks to Rob Mullin, I made some updates to the order of events in the lives of the Ewoks. I'm still toying with the idea of moving all the Ewoks material back in time to where I first had it (2 BBY). We'll see.

1/07/09

I know updates have been seldom. I've been working on a project with a deadline (not quite finished yet either) and reading Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor -- which has been fun. Anyone who's a long-time EU fan will rejoice at the return of Blackhole from Russ Manning's 1978 newspaper strip and Fenn Shysa from the old Marvel series! This is why we love the EU! (and because the stories are great). Matt Stover does a nice job of getting Luke, Han and Leia and right while telling an interesting tale.

12/28/08

Added a small article and link to the subject of early continuity, a much-misunderstood period in Star Wars history.

12/12/08

More Clone Wars series updates. Jim Lehane sagaciously pointed out that Prelude (the prequel comic to the episode Ambush) features Skytop Station. Since that was destroyed in the R2-D2 duology, I've moved it to before those episodes, making it the first episode again.

12/14/08 For those wondering, Wild Space takes place during the events of Clone Wars, episode 6: Downfall of a Droid. And while the focus is on Obi-Wan and Bail Organa during the episode, the Anakin/Ahsoka story-arc is dealt with and expanded. And while I don't like splitting up visual media on the timeline, the official episode guides do divide each episode into three "acts". Based on that, I try to show where Wild Space falls in accordance with each act. It's hardly perfect (some events overlap), but I've tried to show simply where each portion might fit. I may find a better way to do this if we get more episode adaptations (and if R2-D2's Adventure from Grosset & Dunlap proves on March 5th to be the two-parter of episodes 6 and 7 that I suspect it is).

12/13/08 Added the wonderful Clone Wars: Wild Space. If you haven't picked this up, do yourself a favor! It's brilliant, and one of those books that's a natural extrapolation from the films (especially Episode II) that improves the film in countless ways. Karen Miller's a fantastic writer too, and the book is a page-turner as well as being a great character study.

As regards the continuity issue with Anakin's knighting, I'll be writing a new essay on my views towards the recent controversy in a couple of days that I hope will offer a way for fans to get through these "dark times" in fandom.

12/10/08 It's not perfect, but I've placed the two Rebel Force books. This series is set early in the crowded period following the Battle of Yavin. Some evidence for when it should be placed:

1. The Emperor has heard the news of the Death Star's destruction, though Palpatine mentions that he heard it from across the galaxy (which is correct as Vader took awhile to get back to Coruscant). This is still news as the Imperial underlings he tells are first hearing it.

2. Luke mentions that they've been at Yavin base for almost two weeks. While the implication seems to be that they've literally stayed on planet, that will have to interpreted as meaning they've been on planet most of the time. The next point supports this conclusion.

3. Han tells Leia that he's "risked his neck to rescue" Leia "20 times." While this is certainly hyperbole, she doesn't deny it. This indicates that they've had more adventures since the one that destroyed the Death Star (in which he'd only risked his neck to rescue her twice).

Based on this evidence, and the fact that "Day after the Death Star" and the Missions books come immediately after the close of the film, I've placed them after Missions #4 and the Pizzazz strip.

12/08/08 I'm approaching a juncture in year 2 BBY where I have to go through a lot of what I'd once considered ancillary material from West End Games to see what fits where in the scheme of events in this period. Should be interesting.

Update: Some small changes and some larger ones, e.g., the Ewok films have been moved, as well as the related Imperial Survey reports (in the Star Wars Sourcebook and Illustrated Star Wars Universe) to 2 ABY. The "raid on Hoth" noted by the in-universe author of the latter book will have to be chalked up to a pirate or smuggler raid, and not the Battle of Hoth which takes place a year later. It takes more than a year to construct a Death Star, and other evidence points to the beginnings of construction in 2 ABY.

Other important changes include moving Bidlo Kwerve's death earlier along with the introduction into Jabba's palace of the rancor (both from Tales from Jabba's Palace: . This was predicated by Hoole's tale in The Illustrated Star Wars Universe's Tatooine section (which is noted as taking place before Luke left Tatooine) where the the infamous rancor is already present in the palace.

12/08/08 Added Part 1 of Jedi vs. Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force. Parts 2-4 will come later. This is a really good book that's loaded with short fiction that serves as supplementary story material to the books and comics from all across the timeline spectrum. If you don't already own this baby, definitely pick it up.

12/06/08 New covers, KOTOR 35 and Legacy 29.

12/02/08 Updates have been slow as I've had to focus on a personal project, but there's a new Hyperspace story up called Castaways of Endor which should prove interesting to you fans of the old Ewoks cartoons series. It takes place in 12 ABY.

11/10/08 There is a lot of evidence that the Droids cartoon series (and comic books) take place much later than the 15 BBY date that was given by LFL in the 90's. The appearance of A-Wings (later retconned as R-22 Spearheads, yet even these shouldn't appear so early), IG-88 and 3PO's mention of the "Rebel Alliance" (which wouldn't have even been a possibility until about 4 BBY, two years before the Alliance was formed) suggest a later date. The Dark Horse Droids comic Rebellion features a cameo by Han's droid Zee-Zee (and according to the author Han Solo himself) which dates these stories to around 3 BBY.

11/09/08 Updated the Upcoming page with some new titles and revamped dates. Quite a few more Clone Wars books are coming out from Grosset & Dunlap. These appear to be episode adaptations. I hope that trend continues as it's a long-standing SW tradition going back to the Droids and Ewoks cartoons (though those unfortunately didn't see anything close to every episode adapted).

Also, added a link to the three new Lego Clone Wars comics, and added the flashback portions of Millennium Falcon (in the Rise of the Empire section between 19 and 5 BBY).

11/06/08 Just playing catch-up at this point after a very busy two weeks. The last thing left for me to do is figure out all the flashbacks in the new Millennium Falcon (which is a really fun book incidentally).

10/29/08 Sorry, not a lot of updates lately. Been busy around the house. Had to get a new roof, a new TV (the upstairs one exploded), and a lot of running around. I've also been busy slowly going through the new Millennium Falcon book (it's good!) But I figured I'd post this since it's not often an author confirms a date. Henry Gilroy stated on the DH message boards that indeed the comic Shipyards of Doom takes place before the Malevolence arc. There was some confusion on that point, but now we know!

10/13/08 Finally got around to properly placing the fantastic Princess Leia Diaries (from Tales #11) as per the individual diary entries listed. I must have missed one or two internal entries as I see I had one or two completely off.  Also, her training with Giles Durane works with the Weapons Master flashback which indicates she meets him during her first term as Senator. And interestingly, with every diary entry placement, there's a corresponding story of Luke Skywalker at the same age. That's a nice coincidence. At any rate, I'm convinced Jason Hall should write a Princess Leia novel.

Ok, the covers for the newest Clone Wars books are up. Operation: Huttlet, Meet Ahsoka Tano and Decide Your Destiny: Way of the Jedi are all on the timeline. You can find their covers here. The latter is a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure type book.  I've plotted out every course, and there are several favorable ones. As of yet, none have been declared the canonical path. It features two fellow padawans of Ahsoka and takes place at the same time as the film. Good to see an older Bant (Obi-Wan's Mon Cal friend from the Jedi Apprentice series) after so many years.

10/11/08 Some corrections in the order of events with the new Clone Wars material. I still need to upload some covers and things, but overall things are shaping up nicely.

I also updated the Era of Rebellion portion. I'd forgotten to move Vader's Quest/Marvel #35 to after the first portion of Goodwin's newspaper strips (arrggh! I thought I had moved it)! In case you've forgotten the need for that, Vader doesn't know the identity of the pilot who destroyed the Death Star in the second strip, Darth Vader Strikes.

10/09/08 Finally updated The Hutt Gambit (see the Rise of the Empire page) to include chapter titles and proper placements. Rebel Dawn will follow in a few weeks.

10/07/08 I've rearranged the way Droids cartoons appear on the timeline (see the Rise of the Empire page) and added the cover image for the rare Dragon Books version of The White Witch. I've also added the title and lead-in comic to the upcoming episode of The Clone Wars. Expect a new update on each (and a Holonet news) every week.

10/05/08 Dates and cover images of KOTOR #33 and Legacy #28 are up.

9/30/08 Check out the Upcoming page!

9/25/08 Thank Janek Zech and Freetibet83 for pointing out that Boba Fett #5 and 6 best go before Dreadnaughts of Rendili due to the possible appearance of Asajj Ventress in book 6 (and the fact that Anakin isn't surprised by her appearance).

9/24/08 Some refinements with the 2-1 BBY period, additions of the Death Star Technical Companion, and some changes and additions in the Clone Wars era.

Also, thanks to Plaristes for pointing out I hadn't included flashback back info for Anakin: Apprentice and that I should include the short comic Evil Eyes from Manga Black in continuity.

9/22/08 We can thank Freetibet83 for some movement with the Missions books, now placed later as it's been brought to my attention that Vader in fact did not meet with Palpatine after the events of the much earlier Empire #14 (thanks to a retcon Abel provided in Vader's Guide which indicated that the actual meeting with Palps occurred much later in Vader's Quest, Missions #17 and presumably Crossing the Dark Lord).  Update: Thanks to Freetibet83 again, I've managed to find a way to rectify the seeming discrepancy of Vader not knowing Luke's abilities in the newspaper strip Darth Vader Strikes by placing that block of strips (up to and including The Return of Ben Kenobi) before issue #35, where he encounters Luke face to face for the first time. Since Goodwin left time specific gaps in Marvel and the newspaper strips, this may have been close to his intentions

Republic Commando: Order 66 has been added to the timeline, interspersed in and around Labyrinth of Evil and Revenge of the Sith.

9/19/08 Yeah, lots of changes and additions to the timeline with the news of the upcoming titles from Del Rey. Also, the fourth and final Republic Commando novel: Order 66 has augmented some new dates and changed a few old ones (Hero of Cartao and The Cestus Deception are now at 7 months ABG). I enjoy seeing the timeline grow and take shape! I've no doubt they'll be much more refining of the Clone Wars timeline as the TV series commences and picks up steam

9/13/08 Haven't posted updates in a bit, but I continue to move forward chronologically, now at the 5 BBY point. Good stuff and pretty clear sailing so far.  Adding some cover images today: Clone Wars #1 of 6: Slaves of the Republic, KOTOR #32: Vindication, Rebellion #16 and Legacy #27. I also added a link to Janek (no, not Sunber) Zech's Clone Wars Timeline, which manages, like mine, to fit the older Clone Wars stories in which Anakin is a knight before the Clone Wars film. Good stuff, check it out! And while you're at it, download Rob Mullin's creative Star Wars Chronology which is a unique take on the theme. I think you'll enjoy it!

9/1/08 Lots of little things, changes and updates, almost too many to list!  I added placements for Ryder Windham's new Life and Legend of Obi-Wan Kenobi. You can check out the new cover for that here. The cover for the hardback Boba Fett book (which collects the first three Scholastic Boba Fett books) here. And the new cover for Coruscant Knights II: Street of Shadows here.

8/28/08 More minor changes, this time around the 10 BBY period as several items get placed in more accurate time zones. There was an issue with the Boba Fett story, Payback, as it can take place any time from 20 BBY to 40 ABY! But Andy Diggle confirmed that while he never pinned it down, between ANH and TESB makes sense. Thus, it currently stands in 1 ABY. Thanks Andy!

Additional changes include moving The Force Unleashed to a more appropriate time to fit in with Leia's ascension to the Senate. 2 BBY (the date stated in the graphic novel) should mark the very beginning of TFU (not the end) in order to work with pre-established continuity

Another minor change: Adventures in Beggar's Canyon has been moved to Infinities. Unfortunately, this Little Golden Book story, which was published a year prior to the Dark Horse story Luke Skywalker's Walkabout, which covers the same event (but in a very different way), can't be reconciled with that story.

8/26/08 Lots of little things added here and there, some RPG stuff, some minor corrections. I'm finally done with the Clone Wars period (though I'll be returning to it as I have to double check HNN and CIS reports to make sure there's no asynchronous information. I'm up to the first Han Solo book, The Paradise Snare, which includes some nicely detailed flashbacks on Han's childhood.

8/21/08 Added SoulCalibur IV and the tie-in webcomic Visions of the Blade to Infinities at 3 BBY.

8/19/08 Major change on the Clone Wars timeline. Turns out Yoda: Dark Rendezvous does take place while Anakin is a knight! Despite the fact that Obi-Wan refers to him as "Padawan" on page 148, it's revealed on page 285 that, "technically he was no longer Obi-Wan's Padawan." That's why it's important to check the whole source!

So back to its original position it goes: 30 months ABG, right before Republic #69-71: Dreadnaughts of Rendili.

8/12/08 Dark Horse revealed the contents of the upcoming Omnibus: Rise of the Sith. It includes the two Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan tales: The Aurorient Express and Last Stand on Ord Mantell, as well as the rare Aurra's Song (from Dark Horse Presents: Annual 2000), Jedi Council, Prelude to Rebellion and Darth Maul.

Clone Wars recalculation: A good way to reconcile the line on page 10 of Yoda: Dark Rendezvous regarding Honoghr being ravaged by bioweapons (which by the new calculations takes place eighteen months later) is to place the flashback in the first three pages right before the novel. With everything going on in the war, it took the Republic a year and a half to send more Jedi.

8/11/08 I near the end of the Clone Wars rereading, and so far, everything fits fine in the two months prior to the Clone Wars film and series. There are some internal dating issues that will need correction in future reprints, but far fewer that I'd expected. The stories are also very self-contained,  and very easily work within a shorter span of time than originally conceived (the Quinlan Vos saga in fact benefits from each story occurring in quick succession after the other).

8/10/08 Continuing on from yesterday's changes. With the movement of Rebel Thief (SW Kids #1-5) to an earlier spot, the epilogue of issue #5 (Sprool bringing the treasure to Jabba) had to be moved to a later position after Jabba discovers Han's culpability in the destruction of Crimson Jack's ship (and Han's part in blowing a later job in Russ Manning's The Second Kessel Run (on Hyperspace and in Classic SW: The Early Adventures #6) to account for Jabba's refusal to lift the bounty on Han's head. Trust me, it all makes perfect sense when it's in the right order!

8/9/08 Changes: In placing Missions #17-20 earlier, I failed to recall that Q-7N makes his final appearance at the end of book #20, necessitating his appearances in Star Wars Kids #1-5 to before those Missions books. However, due to the issue of Han's treasure (which in SW Kids #1-5 he gives back to the Alliance), it has to go after Marvel #7 (wherein he first loses the treasure to Crimson Jack not getting it back till issue #15). Since the earliest Han, Luke and Leia are able to get back to Yavin 4 is after issue #17, that's where Star Wars Kids #1-5, Missions #17-20 and Empire #14: The Savage Heart currently reside. And for all that, it's a pretty good fit. Thanks to Chad for the reminder...

Tim Zahn's Hero of Cartao from Insider #68-70 has moved to the place where it's internally indicated, namely two years after the Battle of Geonosis at 20 BBY.

8/01/08 As many of you know, with the launch of the new Clone Wars, and Lucas' mandate that Anakin be made a padawan in the first year of the war (as opposed to the last year of the war where it had been), several stories are going to either require shifting or complete re-editing. I'm going to try to make a list of those stories that will need addressing in some form:

Secrets of the Jedi (Scholastic): This book internally states that Anakin is still a padawan. This shouldn't be a problem to move, and the external date (which would place this at 19 BBY) will have to be ignored (Watson's dates have been off before).

Jedi Trial (Del Rey): This is one of Anakin's final missions before becoming a Knight. This is the easiest one to move as it's not internally dated.

Republic #55-68: Anakin is definitely still a padawan in these issues (confirmed by the text and images of him with the padawan braid). Unlike Jedi Trial, these are going to be a challenge to move. Aside from instances such as the Jabiim battle dated by Holonet News, each story is attached to the other, e.g., Last Stand on Jabiim (#55-58) is connected not only to Enemy Lines (#59), but the ongoing storyline of Obi-Wan's kidnapping by Asajj Ventress, which sees continuation in issue #61: Dead Ends, #60: Hate and Fear, and #62: No Man's Land. In addition, a number of those stories touch upon the running Quinlan Vos storyline, which make up the majority of the Republic series. Later stories affected by the above issues include #65-66: Show of Force, #67: Forever Young, #68: Armor, and of course #69-71: Dreadnaughts of Rendili (where incidentally, Anakin gets his scar from Asajj). But at the point of issue #69, Anakin is no longer a padawan.

While an argument could be made for placing this storyline before the Clone Wars cartoon (he's without Ahsoka; he gets his scar), the problem with that is that it leads into the following issues #72-73: Trackdown, which of course leads into the pre-Revenge of the Sith issues, Siege of Saleucami (#74-77).

Holonet News can be rewritten and redated (though for the time being at least three issues, those dealing with Jabiim,  have relegated to Infinities. See 21 BBY in the Infinities page for the issues). For the Republic series, the best bet, in my opinion, would be for the creative and editorial team at Dark Horse to carefully re-date these issues (internally and externally) so that most of them (pre-issue #69) take place before the new Clone Wars film, which can dated per Traviss' novelization either 5, 6 or 7 months (which make up the final three months of the year 22 BBY) after the Battle of Geonosis.

It should be noted that Republic #65-66: Show of Force takes place after Shatterpoint (we see Depa Bilaba in a coma), which is currently at month 6 ABG, unless that novel is moved earlier. But that proves trickier and possibly unnecessary. For one, Mace knows Sora Bulq has turned to the dark side (3 ABG: Jedi: Mace Windu); and for another, Depa has been fighting the Clone Wars on Haruun Kal for four months (4 ABG), leaving Shatterpoint only one month back it can be pushed (possibly: I'd need to re-read it again to know for sure).

The best bet would be to place the new Clone Wars film at 7 months ABG (the final month of the year) which allows plenty of room for Republic #55-64 (and don't forget Jedi: Count Dooku) to fit before Shatterpoint (at 6 months ABG) and #65-67 after it. #68 doesn't feature Anakin and might be able to stay put, provided the Dreadnaughts of Rendili storyline (#69-71) remains where it is.

7/31/08 Posted covers for the latest KOTOR, Legacy and Rebellion. Also posted covers for the new Clone Wars adaptations.

7/29/08 Continuing work on the CW books. Also some changes to the Era of Rebellion era as Missions #17-20 are moved up to before issue #7 of the Marvel series to account for Vader's need to return to Coruscant before the events of the Wheel storyline. Thanks to Chad for the heads up!

*Update: Ok, I've completed the new Clone Wars spin-off adaptations and moved them up to month 6 ABG (to allow room for the sequel spin-offs to fit in the year 22 BBY should that be the case). I can always move it back to 7 ABG again if need be. I'll upload cover images tomorrow.

7/27/08 Hard at "work" at reading the new Clone Wars books. There are no definitive or specific months given as to when in year 22 BBY, the new Clone Wars film and adaptations take place, however, indication is given that it takes place after the 4th month ABG (the Battle of Geonosis took place in the 5th month of the year, so month 4 After the Battle of Geonosis is nine months into the year).

For one, reference is made to the Republic's botched hostage negotiations in recent times. This is a nod to the events of Traviss' short story Omega Squad: Targets which takes place in 4 ABG. Secondly, it's also made clear that Anakin knows Asajj Ventress and has encountered her before. This points to their first meeting in season one of the Tartakovsky Clone Wars cartoon, which also takes place in 4 ABG.

Until further evidence comes forth, I'm placing this in the final month of the first year, 7 ABG. As stated, it could take place in months 5 or 6 ABY (or even at the end of 4 ABG), but there are likely going to be a lot of stories that are going to have to move to before this animated film, and this allows the greatest possible room for them. If evidence comes forth that it is in fact earlier, I'll make note of it and move the placement accordingly.

7/23/08 Some of you are wondering how the Clone Wars timeline is going to change in view of the upcoming film, tie-ins and series. Well, in three days we'll find out a little more, in particular when Anakin gets knighted, which has been moved to early in the first year of the war. This will necessitate some changes, at least of where Jedi Trial is placed, and possibly some of the comics. Anakin's scar is going to be another issue. It's possible he received an earlier scar (we'll likely find out from who), eventually got it healed in bacta, and then at the end of the war, received a similar scar from Asajj Ventress.

Very few things are irreconcilable.

7/8/08 Fixed a few things in the 17-15 BBY range, including splitting and delineating Boba Fett's tale from Tales of the Bounty Hunters into its proper sections, and removing the non-canonical paragraphs from the short story Dark Vendetta to Infinities.

Better delineated the Dagobah entry in The Illustrated Star Wars Universe. In order for Deecee's research (in Galaxy of Fear #12) to be correct, Dagobah was first discovered and catalogued around 39 BBY, but Halka-Four-Den's tragic expedition there occurred just weeks prior to the outbreak of the Clone Wars. The period of chaos that ensued resulted in no one responding to their distress signal.

7/7/08 As mentioned in the Latest News section, expect many of the links to Hyperspace short stories and vignettes (such as material from old West End Games sourcebooks) to not work whilst the site continues to update to its new format.

In other updates, I've moved Tim Zahn's short story Mist Encounter (from Adventure Journal #7) to the start of month 36 ABG as it's internally dated to a week after Palpatine declares the New Order.

6/26/08 Added covers for the latest Dark Horse issues: Legacy 25, KOTOR 30 and Dark Times 12. Also included Omnibus: Droids tag for the issues it contains.

6/25/08 Added the flashbacks in Legacy #16 and #17 to the years 19 and 18 BBY. The Obi-Wan flashback was a difficult one to ascertain, but I'd say that based on how harsh, unforgiving and black-and-white he is towards who he perceives as a nemesis (no spoilers), that he's still embittered and grieving over Anakin and the loss of the Jedi, and that he hasn't yet begun to heal or train with Qui-Gon in the Last of the Jedi series, thus explaining his unusually sour temperament in that encounter. The flashback in #17 is set some time after that, as the character in question has found employment as a bounty hunter, but since the frame story indicates it's shortly after he left Tatooine. Thus the following year (18 BBY) is reasonable.

Also added the cover for Coruscant Knights I: Jedi Trial. The date, from a quick glance, appears to be 2 or 3 months after ROTS, but I should have a more concrete placement of it once I read the book.

6/22/08 Nothing major to report, some minor delineations (Death on Naboo finally dating to the month the Last of the Jedi series), and a clarification in the way I handle flashbacks. I'm going back to my older policy which was that if they're not significant portions of a story, I'm not listing them. Otherwise, to list every time a character thinks back to the past in a novel, or when a comic shows a panel or two of the past, begins to border on silly. Thus I removed the two flashbacks from Prelude to Rebellion that occurred within the story and were no more than a handful of panels. However, when a flashback is a significantly large portion of a story, when it's its own chapter, when it's individually titled, I'll list it. This timeline is meant to provide a reading guide, not a scholarly dissertation listing the date for every passing moment in SW history. There are timelines that do that (Eddie's Starwarstimeline.net comes to mind). This isn't that. For someone to jump into the middle of a story to read just a single panel where Ki-Adi-Mundi is a teenager, for example, goes against the intended purpose of this site.

6/21/08 Minor changes to the months following ROTS, mostly fine-tuning involving Dark Lord, Evasive Action: Recruitment and Watson's final series, Last of the Jedi, which I'm currently going through.

6/19/08 More changes to the year 19 in and around Episode III, mostly fine-tuning a few things and some minor additions (such as the relevant chapters in The Rise and Fall of Darth Vader). The webstrips Evasive Action: Prey and End Game were moved to the year 18. These supposedly intersect with the upcoming novel by Michael Reaves Coruscant Nights.

6/18/08 Well into the 'dark times' of SW history: The Pax Empirica novella from the Galactic Battlegrounds Prima Guide, written a year before Episode II, is not an easy fit, dealing as it does with a new type of Genome Clone trooper (who doesn't know he's a clonea premise I'm not sure I'm buying) during the early days of the Empire. But it could be made to work in the context of the Kashyyyk invasion in Luceno's Dark Lord where I have it (though I was off by two chapters) and seen as a special mission to try out these new types of clones. Apparently, the mission is deemed a failure and the Empire abandons the project in favor of the Lekauf clones we see coming up in the In His Image story, as well as conscripts and recruits.

6/17/08 I've gotten behind in posting cover images. Got the latest issues from Dark Horse up, but still need to get some books and trade paperbacks on here.

6/12/08 The restructuring of Revenge of the Sith and its various tie-ins is for the most part complete. I have to make sure that the opening part of Dark Lord fits where I put it, and doesn't require further delineation, but essentially, this period is done. Three film-eras down, three to go!

6/11/08 As I complete ROTS, I also updated the timeline to indicate  the stories that will appear in the upcoming Dark Horse compilation book, Luke Skywalker: Last Hope for the Galaxy. See here for the list of works in total. I also expanded the Chewbacca chapters from that miniseries on the History page (25 ABY), although due to space restrictions, I left the shortened version on the New Jedi Order page. I'm in the process of updating the publisher info to include all the stories that will appear in the Hamilton Collection Star Wars Graphic Novel Library. I have to say the amount of stories being reprinted in two, three or even different collections (when you count the original trade paperback, the 30th Anniversary set, the Omnibus collection and now the Hamilton Collection!) is really making the timeline look cluttered. While I've determined to leave the publisher info intact (on Gato's advice), I will at some point begin assigning the various collections to the cover gallery page, so that when you click on any title, the cover and all the material it's been reprinted in will appear.

6/4/08 The Clone Wars is concluded... at least until the new TV series begins in August when we revisit this time period, likely with lots of corrections and retcons. Month 35 has been completely overhauled to properly show how James Luceno's Labyrinth of Evil and the Reversal of Fortune webstrip by Paul Ens and Tom Hodges beautifully interweave. Onto Revenge of the Sith and the dark times...

I also removed Chaz' attempt to reconcile the 3d season of Clone Wars cartoons with canon, a valiant effort, but upon closer examination, it's clear that Labyrinth of Evil and Reversal of Fortune form a tightly woven tapestry leading up to Revenge of the Sith. The cartoon's creators (who were supposed to follow those sources) eschewed all of that in favor of their own completely different version of events, which ultimately prove irreconcilable and contradictory to the novel and webstrip. See here for more details.

6/1/08 More changes, this time to month 4 ABG to incorporate the Clone Wars PhotoComic adaptation of the 1st season of the animated Clone Wars micro-series. A few minor changes to months 31-35.

5/30/08 Some changes to 22 ABY, month 1 ABG, adding the flashback from Republic #72 and breaking Boba Fett #1: The Fight to Survive into a third part to indicate the span of time that passes in which Dooku goes from Geonosis to Bakura to Raxus Prime. Moved Republic #73-77 to month 35 ABG.

Also, made some changes to month 30, including reversing Yoda: Dark Rendezvous with the Dreadnaughts of Rendili (Republic #69-71) story-arch due to the fact that Anakin believes he killed Asajj at the end of Republic #71 (he insists she's dead in the later Obsession). However, Whie and Scout encounter Asajj in Yoda: Dark Rendezvous, and survived to tell the tale, which means that the New Essential Chronology is correct in placing the book before Republic #69-71. Thus, the reference of the Rendili 'crisis' in the novel has to be an earlier conflict that precedes the 'battle' of Rendili.

Since Palpatine has Obi-Wan and Anakin go to Vjun (in the Yoda novel) from an unnamed mission and not Coruscant, they must have left Coruscant on other missions in between. Thus the placement of the Clone Wars Adventures stories (which also feature Anakin with the scar Ventress gave him in Republic #71).

5/23/08 Officially added the latest Hyperspace short story Lando Calrissian: Idiot's Array to the Era of Rebellion page! I've always had it on the timeline as an unpublished short story, but now it's officially part of Star Wars lore!  Kudos to Rich!

5/20/08 Minor change: moved Bounty Hunter and Jango Fett: Open Seasons to after Star Wars #7-12: Outlander. Thanks to Tusken Jedi for the heads up on Gardulla!

5/20/08 Wrote a rather lengthy review of Prince Caspian on the Reckoning page.

5/16/08 I removed the listing for the Clone Wars TV show from the 19 BBY year, the reason being that there's something about the show I didn't know: The Clone Wars TV show will be an anthology that is going to span the entirety of the Clone Wars... That's a very interesting piece of news, and I have to imagine it's giving LFL editors Sue Rostoni and Leland Chee (not to mention the TV show's story editors Filoni and others) lots of late-nights and headaches!

I don't know how the process of coordination works. The Clone Wars timeline is pretty clear in terms of the novels and comics' place. Whether Lucas has chosen to upset the apple cart -- and to what degree -- nobody outside of LFL and the TV's production yet knows.  But an anthology series that spans the entirety of the wars with standalone stories (shows that have sequels or prequels will provide recap for the audience) will prove challenging no matter how you slice it.

Time-wise, there's plenty of that in each of the three years of the war for many more stories.  The issue will be with the interactions of characters, e.g., Asajj Ventress, who have pre-established interactions, and with established battles and events.  As we saw from the comic anthology series, Clone Wars Adventures, standalone stories don't necessarily harm the continuity at all.  It's possible, if LFL doesn't nail each and every episode to a specific timeframe, that fan-chronologers, such as myself, can juggle where episodes fit. Even if the series lists dates, if it does so by year or month only, there's still room for flexibility provided the show's writers know what's already occurred in each month (which should be simple enough from a synopsis of the books and comics).

200 episodes of an anthology is not going to be an easy thing plot out, even simply keeping continuity within the show itself, let alone prior books and comics. Overall, I think so long as people are putting effort towards keeping continuity (which I imagine will require maintaining a written timeline of events that the writers can look at and access), looking at the events of the Clone Wars (books, comics, episodes, etc.) as 'historical' events of a three year period, it'll be fine. I don't doubt discrepancies will arise, and I imagine each will have to be reconciled on a case-by-case basis.  It will be interesting to see what develops...

5/10/08 After some deliberation, I moved the short story "Mutiny on the Rand Ecliptic" to the Infinities section. Given the very different series of events portrayed in Dark Horse's Darklighter series, it unfortunately just doesn't fit into continuity without convoluted, pretzel-like twists of logic. Also moved, X-Wing Rogue Squadron #1/2 up a notch.  Thanks to Chad for the corrections.

Added covers for the latest issues of Legacy and Rebellion.

5/9/08 Added Omnibus: Early Victories tag to the stories it will collect including Splinter of the Mind's Eye, Shadow Stalker, River of Chaos, Tales from Mos Eisley, and Vader's Quest.

Back to our regularly scheduled Clone Wars re-editing.

I've added the Holonet News and CIS Shadowfeed dates from Insider issue #71 despite the fact that they're the same dates from issue #70. You'll notice that Wookieepedia has different dates (14:10:03 and 14:10:05), but despite my notifying them of the discrepancy, they've been unable to produce any evidence to back up those dates. Where do they come from?  Until I get any kind of information on that, the dates written in the magazine are the ones that are standing.

5/8/08 Minor note: Was able to restore issue #1 of Star Wars Kids' comic Rebel Thief from Infinities back to continuity. It seems Han did in fact get his treasure back from Crimson Jack after the latter's defeat. That 20,000 credits he then gave back to the Alliance, as we learn in Rebel Thief issue #1.

5/5/08 Added the upcoming James Luceno book Millennium Falcon to year 41 ABY. Not certain of the date, but we do know it takes place after LOTF: Invincible.

5/3/08 No major work on the site as I plow through the MedStar duology, but some new release dates for a few upcoming Clone Wars tie-ins.  I'm certain there'll be lots more dates and revisions in the coming weeks and months as we get nearer the release date of the 3D animated film. Should be fun if they were careful not to screw up the carefully orchestrated timeline of the period.

4/30/08 Approaching the end of year 20 BBY, with updates including the final series of Holonet News, CIS Shadowfeed articles and other corrections.

4/25/08 Updated the Upcoming page with some forthcoming titles, including a date at last for the 2-volume slipcase Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia!  Knowing that Pablo worked on this will mean it's going to be pretty comprehensive. November 4th is the release date, and I can't wait!!

Added cover galleries for KOTOR's Vector crossover, new Dark Times and cover for Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor.

4/23/08 Added the newest Hyperspace exclusive short story: Precipice to the timeline, taking place during chapter 22 of the Attack of the Clones novelization.

4/22/08 Finished True Colors (great read!) and am soon to conclude Year 21, the second year of the Clone Wars.

4/17/08 Counting, a useful skill.  One I clearly don't have.  I've rearranged Republic Commando: Triple Zero and True Colors to Months 13 and 16 respectively, where they belong.  Why?  Simple.  There's 30 days in each galactic month.  While the Republic utilizes a 10 month calendar, to make things "easier" for us Earthlings, LFL has converted that to a 12 month calendar (keeping the 30 days a month with an additional 8 days interspersed throughout the year).  Triple Zero (the body of the story, not the prologue which is two months earlier) begins the day before the anniversary of the Battle of Geonosis (367 days ABG) and continues on to 395 ABG. In other words, the eve of Month 13 ABG to the end of month 13 ABG. Odds (the short story included with True Colors) begins 60-65 days later (2 months later) after that at 460 days ABG, which is the start of Month 16, and True Colors begins ten days after that.

4/13/08 Changes, changes, changes. With much more to come.  *Updated: Eventually, we're going to see all the publisher information on the cover galleries pages, leaving the timelines themselves free for just the titles. I think this more streamlined format will cause less clutter and eye-strain on the body of the timeline itself. Anyone looking for further information can click on the title and find the publisher and collection info. This is going to take some time, but my goal is to update this information as I go through the timeline chronologically. My current plans are also to include author and illustrator info (where applicable) by trade paperback collection, not by individual issue (unless a particular issue hasn't been collected).

* Update: As Master Gato Branco brought to my attention, it may be best to leave at least the publisher info available to view at a quick glance, and I agree that makes sense. (Thanks Gato!)

And coming next week: a big news announcement from the publisher of this site!

4/10/08 Minor changes in the Clone Wars. * Fixing more of my mistakes in regards to dates in the Clone Wars.

4/8/08 Here we go, 4:00 AM again and working on the site. Will bad habits never cease?  At any rate, you'll notice some improvements on the Star Wars site; just trying to get things appearances to be a bit more concise.  Much more to come in an endeavor to bring this site up to speed in the late 0's.

4/2/08 Added some Holonet News articles from the Insider to the Clone Wars era (months 9-12 ABG). More to come.

3/30/08 I just discovered that despite the fact that the Republic uses a 10 month calendar during the Clone Wars, LFL chose to convert those dates to our calendar. Thus, for the sake of consistency, I'll be utilizing 12 months per year as well. Note, the Battle of Geonosis still stands as taking place 5 months into the year; thus 1 month ABG (After the Battle of Geonosis) is 6 months into 22 BBY.

3/27/08 Ok, the first five months after the Clone Wars  (with encompasses year 22 BBY) are done.  I'll be starting year 21 BBY (and months 6 to 15).

3/22/08 Changes continue to come slowly in the 22 BBY period.  Added placements and cover images to Random House's Battle in the Arena and I am a Jedi Apprentice. Both of which come just at the end of the Episode II: AOTC material, and right before Month 1 of the Clone Wars. This is a densely packed period, which is fun to read through, but a challenge to get right.  Since I'm trying to eliminate the "circa" elements in the site (since so much material crosses over from "minor" stories to "major" ones), it can take a little longer than I'd like.  That, plus I'm working on some projects I can't yet discuss.  But when I can, be sure I'll let all you guys know in the Latest News section.  There should be some exciting announcements in the weeks or months to come. Sorry to tease!  Ok, back to work.  Shatterpoint is ended (brilliant book!) and I'm on to other battles in the Clone Wars!

Also added cover images for the recent Rebellion and Legacy titles. On the subject of Rebellion, since they seem to be filling in the 6-12 month gap after the Battle of Yavin, I've moved some of the earlier (non-Yavin based) stories to 1 ABY.  Whether or not this will stay at this spot remains to be seen.  To my recollection, there's nothing in most of these stories preventing a later time-slot (though it has been some time since I've read them, so don't quote me on that), other than Luke and Leia wearing their A New Hope outfits in some issues. But as of now, it seems the better option than jumping back and forth from Russ Manning's 1979 comic strip to something written nearly 30 years later.  That said, I prefer Manning's tales and wish we had more of those.  No offense, of course, to any of the current writers, but Goodwin, Manning (and later Michelinie and Duffy) really knew how to write fun Luke, Leia and Han stories that were memorable. I think I'd enjoy Rebellion better if it felt more connected to those earlier tales. There's no reason we couldn't see Anduvil of Ogem, Tanith Shire or Domina Tagge make an appearance, but even a reference to some earlier adventure would be nice from time to time. At any rate, this isn't a reviews blog, is it? (And don't give me any ideas! I've got enough work to do!)

3/5/08 Ok, some changes and updates as I work through the first six months of the Clone Wars. This one unrelated to that period. I moved the Ewoks cartoons and comics from the 0-2 BBY to the 2 ABY period. Contrary to some sources which indicate a 3.5 ABY dating (six months after TESB), this dating allows time for the construction or relocation of Death Star II. The last episode of the Ewoks cartoon series featured the Imperial discovery of the Endor moon (and the implication that the Emperor decided this satellite would be an ideal place for the shield generator), thus it must take place prior to the establishment of the Death Star above Endor.

2/17/08 I move into one of the most convoluted and difficult dating periods in the Star Wars saga, the Clone Wars. You would think that because most of it is individually dated in each book, comic or game itself, that it would be an easy period to lay out. Yet due to constant conflicts with other sources, LFL was forced to change dates a few times for a few different stories.  This led to some confusion.

Another part of the problem is that this period was the first to fully incorporate events exclusively found in video games (of which there were several), events that are difficult for those who played the game to recall exactly where each mission occurs (or what each mission was even about) and extremely difficult for non-gamers to get a handle on. Several online walkthroughs aided me in this regard, but the placements are guesstimates at best.

You'll notice too that I'm now separating the Clone Wars period into individual months (I had it by 6 month period before). This is the only era where that can be successfully and appropriately done as LFL did attempt to plot all the Clone Wars material by month, and these numbers (and some  later revisions) are provided with each EU source.

2/16/08 Expanded on more material from the Episode II period, including the video game Galactic Battlegrounds (which is pretty safe continuity-wise). I gave a brief summary of the pertinent aspects of each mission. As this is a real-time strategy game, there aren't a lot of story elements, as it mostly deals with combat, resource-gathering, base-building and unit-control. But what plot mechanics are in place, I've summarized for non-gamers. As this game deals with the Rebellion and New Republic eras as well, we'll return to it down the road.

2/14/08 In the Rise of the Empire and History sections, the Episode II: Attack of the Clones section has been overhauled and more finely delineated.

1/23/08 Added cover images of the newest trade paperbacks: KOTOR vol. 3 and Dark Times vol. 1. Some minor changes made to the period before Episode II: AOTC, but much more to come!

1/19/08 Updated Upcoming schedule. Some things added, some changed.

1/18/08 Minor changes, including an update on the upcoming Coruscant Knights trilogy. Seems Book 2 has been changed from Chiaroscuro to Street of Shadows, and Book 3 is Patterns of Force.

1/15/08 Made some changes to Watson's Jedi Quest chronology (27-23 BBY). Updated the Upcoming schedule.

1/10/08 Added Legacy #18 and 0˝ covers.

1/03/08 Added Darth Bane: Rule of Two detailed chronology to the Jedi vs. Sith chronology.

12/31/07 Added entries and cover images for KOTOR #23-24, Dark Times #7 and Clone Wars Adventures #10, and Darth Bane: Rule of Two, which I'll be expanding as I did with Path of Destruction to show how it's structured alongside Jedi vs. Sith.

Also, redirected the domain names: www.starwarstimeline.net, www.oztimeline.net and www.xfilestimeline.net to their appropriate main pages. www.Timelineuniverse.net remains the umbrella page, but each site now feels more independent and individual. The Latest News page is now officially a Star Wars news page and the X-Files portion of the site will be getting its own in the coming days. (The Royal Timeline of Oz already has its own news page.)

12/14/07 Added a cover image and entry for Jedi vs. Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force, a wonderful and wonderfully illustrated new book from Ryder Windham that's pretty darned comprehensive! I will eventually break the book down into the individual sections and flashbacks that belong to each of the different time periods, in fact I look forward to that. And Ryder was kind enough to provide the exact dates for us timeliners! Right now, however, I'm in the middle of a project that I hope to have finished by the end of December, beginning of January. More on that as the days move forward.

11/19/07 Added covers for KOTOR #22 and the handbook and Legacy #14-17. Also, based on Cindel's revealed birthdate (on her databank entry on the Official Site) I've adjusted the time of her adventures on Endor (in both Ewok films) to 3 ABY.

11/07/07 Made some cosmetic changes to the link bars on the site.  Mesa liken it!  You'll notice I changed the upper left corner with a FAR cooler image, IMO, one of my favorites actually (that just happened to fit the right dimensions!)

10/28/07 Servers were down yesterday as Successfulhosting.com moved to a larger facility.  Apologies to anyone trying to access the site during that time.

10/27/07 Added covers of KOTOR #19-21, Dark Times #5-6 and Clone Wars Adventures #9.

9/25/07 Added the cover for the fourth Shadows of the Empire mini-comic, which came in the mail today, and surprise of surprises... it's a completely new comic.  Where the other three mini-comics have a script by Ryder Windham and artwork by Bill Hughes, the fourth one with Luke, Xixor and Fett on the cover has a script by John Wagner and is illustrated by Ron Randall, and it's exclusive to this rare mini-comic.  The story covers the time from the Boba Fett's departure on Gall to Luke's departure on Tatooine in the 16th chapter of the Shadows of the Empire novel.  Pretty cool, but a very rare item.  Your best bet in finding this may be to track down the original AMT/ERTL model kit  it came packaged with (which was included in the Return of the Jedi Millennium Falcon and the "Encounter with Yoda on Dagobah" set and possibly others.)  Look for the sticker on top of the box advertising the Shadows of the Empire comic inside.

9/19/07 The year 32 BBY wherein the events up to and including The Phantom Menace is going through a major overhaul to more accurately reflect what story goes where.  This includes breaking up the novelization a bit since it contains some EU material that's been adapted in comics and other sources.  Because the Scholastic and Dark Horse adaptations are directly from the film, I don't see the need to break those up into chapters, although I will consider it over the course of the next few days.  This may be the start of an entire overhaul for how the films and their ancillary and supplementary sources are handled on this timeline.  Obviously, I don't want it to get to the point of ridiculousness.  I don't think even the most ardent fan of chronology is served by pausing the film at various intervals throughout in order to jump into this book or that graphic novel.  But where the novelization is considered, I think a chapter-breakdown to allow room for other stories which take place in-between chapters (or even pages if needed) may be a nice balance point.  We'll see how it goes...

**Update: Well, it seems The Phantom Menace era is done.  I may yet split up the the Scholastic young readers adaptation (although I think I'll leave the Manga adaptation as is).  So far I like what I see...

9/10/07 I've rewritten and expanded my essay "On Swamp Thing" to better express my feelings toward the first two series, its triumphs and flaws, and the mockery that came later.  You can check that out here.

8/24/07 Some of you may be wondering why I haven't been posting the minor updates I've been making on a nearly day-to-day basis.  No real answer other than lack of time and frequency of the updates.  As I go through the timeline chronologically, I've been noticing and correcting minor mistakes and tweaking things for improved accuracy.  Others have helped in this regard (a big shout-out to you guys at the Dark Horse Boards!) and it's appreciated!  But for the most part, these haven't been earth-shattering changes.  I'll try and record them here if I feel they're significant enough or if you tell me you really want to know every time anything on the timeline changes.  I am planning on putting up a Jude Watson timeline so that you guys can see how we come to the conclusions we do about the dates.  But more on this later.

8/9/07 Minor tweaks all week long, particularly to the Rise of the Empire era and the Jedi Apprentice series of books.

7/26/07 Finally sorted out how the comics Purge and the first story-arch of Dark Times fit into the scheme of the Dark Lord novel.  They're all set just before Part II in the book.  Sorry for any prior confusion...  Check it out at 19 BBY in Rise of the Empire or History.  Update: Changed again.  Clearly I have trouble counting.  The war the Jedi fight against the Mandalorians (as shown in flashback to Open Seasons #3 takes place at 34 BBY.)

7/13/07 Minor updates the last few days.  Each day I'm trying to add at least two sourcebooks or RPG adventures from West End Games (or Wizards of the Coast) to the timeline.  Some of these come in the form of very short stories (some no more than a paragraph) others in the form of adventure seeds; still others are just new character bios.  I've tried to place each where appropriate: stories dealing with the main characters, locales or ongoing story in the main section, adventures in the new RPG sections and short stories with no recognizable people or places in the "Circa" sections.

7/10/07 Added title of upcoming Last of the Jedi novella (due in August): Against the Empire!

7/9/07 More changes.  Added new Adventure Journal page and #17.  Dark Horse members continue to help make this timeline more accurate, this time the padawan Clone Wars!  Added some flashbacks in the Rise of the Empire era.  Added a detailed chronology of how Jedi vs. Sith lines up with Darth Bane: Path of Destruction.

6/27/07 Thanks to Korod Vos on the DH boards, I made some changes to better reflect the accuracy of the original sources.  "Yaddle's Tale: The One Below" (from Tales #5) is now at 42 BBY with the flasback at circa 300-100 BBY.  The flashback in "Vow of Justice" from Prelude to Rebellion is at 88 BBY.  The flashback in Prelude to Rebellion #0 has been placed at 74 BBY.  The flashback in Aurra's Song is now at 36 BBY, with the frame story at Circa 30-23 BBY.

6/26/07 More fiction from West End Games sourcebook, this time the Movie Trilogy Sourcebook scattered throughout the Era of Rebellion.  I also broke up the Darklighter story-arch to better reflect when certain sections take place and when the old "Mutiny on the Rand Ecliptic" short story might fit in.  It's not a pretty fit, however, as the author of Darklighter didn't take that story into account (save to utilize Captain Heliesk) and there are several elements that could use some retcon glue.  Also added the Gamer article, "Starhoppers of Aduba 3" (2 ABY).  Don't ask me how I missed this one initially as it's a favorite topic of mine!  Update: Added some entries from the Shadows of the Empire Sourcebook.

6/24/07 Added short fiction pieces from The Star Wars Sourcebook to the Rebellion (0-2 ABY) and Rise of the Empire (2-0 BBY) eras.  Update: Added fiction pieces from the Imperial Sourcebook and Rebel Alliance Sourcebook.

6/14/07 Added cover images of Dark Times #3, KOTOR #15-17, Clone Wars Adventures #8, Legacy #11-13, Rebellion #6-7.

6/7/07 Shifted The Bounty Hunters Wars into more accurate positions in the Era of Rebellion.  Added Empire at War to Infinities.  Added "The Ordeal of Boba Fett" to the 4 ABY in the Era of Rebellion page.  Also added fiction portions of the Dark Empire Sourcebook to The New Republic page.  Added fiction portions of the Jedi Academy Sourcebook to The New Republic page.

6/6/07 Added covers for KOTOR #14-16.

5/30/07 Added Rogue Squadron video game trilogy to the Infinities section (0-3/0-4).  Added covers of the game boxes.

5/14/07 Added the Tales of the Jedi Companion to the Sith Era timeframe and cover gallery

5/13/07 There will be some minor changes and fine-tuning to the timeline as I go through everything chronologically for the first time in years.  Eg., I expect to incorporate more of the stories in the "circa" sections to less ambiguous time-frames if warranted and appropriate.

5/10/07 After much work, Adventure Journal #16 is up for viewing.  Thank you to everyone responsible in enabling this to be presented for posterity and for the fans!

5/6/07 Added covers for Prima Guides: X-Wing, TIE-Fighter and X-Wing Alliance, and X-Wing Combat Simulator, Guide and "The Farlander Papers."  Added "A Path to Victory" (from X-Wing Alliance) to 'circa 3 ABY' in the Era of Rebellion.

5/3/07 Lots of little changes and tweaks to the overhaul of last week, particularly to the Era of Rebellion

4/27/07 Major overhaul to the History portion of the Star Wars site.  In particular, these changes reflect more consistent (and eye-pleasing) formatting and will be replicated throughout the other eras.

3/28/07 Further delineations in the late Rise of the Empire era, particularly in the former 2-0 BBY years.  Also designated the specific strips which correspond to the Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina short story, "A Hunter's Fate: Greedo's Tale."  Re-posted the two rare Middle-Earth novellas by Bradley, "The Parting of Arwen" and "The Jewel of Arwen," to make them larger and more visible.  Thanks to James Leady for the heads-up!

3/27/07 Continuing to make further changes, or more accurately delineations, this time to the Rise of the Empire era, specifically to the time period surrounding the years leading up to the Battle of Yavin, more specifically 3-0 BBY.  Moved the first part of "The Tale of IG-88" to just before the Droids cartoon series in 15 BBY.  Added covers of UK exclusive trades, Droids: Season of Revolt and River of Chaos.  Also added cover of Dig Magazine containing Luke Skywalker story.  Update: Finally, delineated the 2-0 BBY period and added hardcover (HC) page numbers to the entries there.

3/22/07 Updated Darth Bane: POD chronology.  Major changes to the Shadows of the Empire tie-in material, including the book, comics, mini-comic, specials and pop-up Battle of the Bounty Hunter.  See the Era of Rebellion for details.

3/14/07 Completed Infinities section and incorporation of Infinities tales into the History section.

Continued incorporating Infinities stories to the History page and dating them on the Infinities page.  Moved Jabba the Hutt 1-4 to the Era of Rebellion (Year 1) and listed the individual issue titles.  Also placed Visionaries: "Old Wounds" in Infinities due to current thought that it is non-canon likely due to Maul's killing Watto — Watto is said to have lived into the Rebellion era, though from what source that comes I can't tell (possibly the game Galaxies.)

3/13/07 Continued incorporating Infinities stories to the History page and dating them on the Infinities page.  Added Monsters and Aliens from George Lucas cover and entry to the "Circa 5 and 6 ABY" section on the New Republic page.  Added The Wildlife of Star Wars: A Field Guide cover and entry to the "Circa 14 ABY" section on the New Republic page.

3/11/07 Added new page: Upcoming Tales for keep track of upcoming Star Wars books and comics.  See Latest News page for more info.  Also added cover images of Legacy #9 and KOTOR #14.

3/5/07 Changed continuity notes on the Ewoks films and cartoon series to better reflect the ambiguous status of their chronology.  Added cover image of Republic Commando: True Colors (gorgeous cover IMO) and changed its placement to 7-12 months after Episode II.  "101 Star Wars Stories You Can't Live Without" has become "111."  The symbol designating the Reviews and Recommendations pages has been changed to the logo for the Imperial Department of Military Research (which seemed appropriate.)  I'm also in the process of adding Infinities stories to the body of the timeline itself to aid readers in seeing where they would take place on the timeline if they were in continuity.  Changed the wording from "Also During the ___ period" to "Circa ___."  Thanks to Chad Walton for the nudge!  Replaced Galactic Battlegrounds short story into the Rise of the Empire era (in between chapters of Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader.)

2/26/07 Short fiction story, The Battle of Cadinth by former WEG'er Bill Smith is available on Hyperspace as part of their Insider #92 supplement.

2/22/07 Added Rookies webstrips to the Era of Rebellion and History pages.  This is a tentative placement under the "Also in the 0-2 ABY Period" section until author Pablo Hidalgo releases more concrete information.  Added placement for upcoming novel, Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor in the New Republic era.

2/18/07 Made some changes to the About... page and shifted the Fantasy/Faith essay over to the Reckoning page.  Added a banner on the main page for The Hasslein Curve: A Timeline of the Planet of the Apes.

2/17/07 Made some changes to the Jedi Code essay.  Added a new essay to the Holocron page: "Fiction Within Fiction: Viewing the Star Wars Saga as "History."

1/31/07 Added placement of Republic Commando: True Colors to immediately after Triple Zero in the Rise of the Empire era.

1/29/07 Added cover image and placement of Allegiance in the Era of Rebellion.

1/26/07 Dark Times #2 is out and as with issue #1 is great!  Cover posted here.

1/24/07 Added cover images and placements of the two Star Wars Manga titles (Black and Silver.)  Note that all of them are Infinities, with two exceptions, "Phantasmagoria" which takes place at the end of Return of the Jedi and "Dear Anakin" which is little more than a short letter from Kitster to Anakin which I've placed just prior to Attack of the Clones.

1/18/07 Added cover for Clone Wars Adventures #7 and placement at the six-month period after the start of the Clone Wars (this despite lack of evidence on three of the four stories which are undated -- subject to change if further information is forthcoming.)

1/16/07 Hyperspace has started the Archie Goodwin strip Revenge of the Jedi. Check it out.

1/12/07 At long last, Hyperspace has updated their fiction section with Kathy Tyers' story, "Only Droids Serve the Maker" which first featured in the Star Wars Adventure Journal.

1/11/07 Added cover images of the following SW issues: Knights of the Old Republic #11 and 12, Rebellion #5, Legacy #7.  Also added cover image of the upcoming fifth book in the Legacy of the Force series: Sacrifice.

1/10/07 Added cover images of the various Star Wars Radio Dramas from NPR (Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi) and indicated where the first two episodes of the first dramatization (Star Wars) go during the Rise of the Empire era.

1/06/07 Finally added the rare cover of Dragon Books' Droids: The Trigon Unleashed.  The exclusive UK translations of the Japanese Manga Star Wars graphic novels (produced by Tokyopop) should be arriving soon.  I'll be posting timeline (or Infinities) entries for each story.

12/24/06 Lots more little changes, this time rearranged events in the Era of Rebellion, particularly those surrounding Lando's acquisition of Cloud City (in Tales #3: Lady Luck), EV-9D9's story, the Missions books (#9-12) and others.  Some of you will be interested to note that I've added back some more of the Star Wars Kids stories from Scholastic, primarily issues #2-5: The Rebel Thief (minus issue #1 due to the fact that it's the primary source of continuity problems) and X-Wing Marks the Spot (issues #6-9.)  No doubt this period is the most challenging in which to figure out the placement of stories, but it's also conversely the most interesting as well, especially as it harkens back to a time when authors and fans were less pedantic about exacting chronological weeks, months and days.  Fictional universes, especially shared ones like Star Wars, function much better when dates and times are left a little fuzzy, especially as those elements (though interesting to some) really represent the forest for the trees.

12/23/06 Lots of tiny tweaks on the timeline, including some Clone Wars corrections to better harmonize with the official timeline and changes involving the first volume of the micro-series, and some other unrelated minor ones.

12/19/06 Added title and cover image for The Last of the Jedi #7: Secret Weapon.

12/13/06 Turns out the rumors are true and I am smoking crack.  Ok, some clarification.  Scholastic released two exclusive mail-order series of Star Wars books and magazines with similar titles (don't you just love that?)  The first was called Star Wars: Episode I Adventures; the second: Star Wars Adventures.  These were original stories.  The first series ran 15 books.  I thought it was 14 and it turns out I'm missing the last one.  I also apparently decided to re-title book 8 as "Deep Trouble," when in fact it's called Trouble on Tatooine.  Don't ask cause I don't know!  Scholastic's second series debuted shortly after Episode II in 2003 and ran 13 books.  As if things weren't confusing enough and to the upset of a lot of subscribers, they began reprinting stories from their first Episode I Adventures series starting at Book 7 (which reprinted Book 5 of the first series: The Ghostling Children.)  I thought the series concluded at Book 9, but it turns out they kept reprinting books till Book 13 (which reprinted Book 14 of the first series.)  Confused yet?  Then it turns out I also left books 13 and 14 (of the first series) off the timeline.  All that's corrected now and you can see the proper order in the Rise of the Empire section and all of the covers in the Cover gallery.  Once again, thanks Chad for the fantastic eagle eyes!

12/10/06 Added cover image of new Tag & Bink Were Here trade paperback (as well as Tag & Bink: Episode I: Revenge of the Clone Menace which I'd somehow forgotten to post in the Infinities section.)

12/06/06 Added cover images of KOTOR trade paperbacks volumes 1 and 2.  Some additional aesthetic changes.  Added the years 30-40 to the New Jedi Order page.

12/05/06 Back to normal...  For best appearance, your text-size should be set at the default: Medium.

12/04/06 Please excuse the site's appearance (primarily the Star Wars Expanded Universe Timeline) as I work through some technical aesthetic updates.  Thank you!

It was announced on the Official Site's boards that book 7 of the Legacy of the Force series will be called Fury.  Added cover images of KOTOR #10 and Legacy #6.  Finally, there is confirmation that there will be a total of 10 books in the Last of the Jedi series from Scholastic (#6 was just released.)  Good news indeed.

11/30/06 Moved "Casualty Report:Order 66" till after the conclusion of Dark Lord.  Thanks again Chad!

11/25/06 Separated webstrip Reversal of Fortune into two periods: before ROTS (1-101) and during (102-169).  Thanks goes to Chad Walton for the refinement!

11/17/06 Added cover image of trade pb Empire Volume 6: In the Shadows of their Fathers.

11/15/06 Back after a brief jaunt to Italy with some updates.  Dark Horse's ongoing Legacy series is up to issue 5.  Knights of the Old Republic hit #9 this past week.  And at long last the first issue of Dark Times is out!

10/22/06 The Phantom Menace period in the Rise of the Empire era underwent a major overhaul today.  A number of pertinent young-readers stories -- particularly Scholastic's Star Wars Junior books -- were absent, and the order of Episode I stories (Random House, Dark Horse, Scholastic and the online Podracing Tales) was completely out of alignment in a number of areas!  Check it out here starting at 33 BBY.

Also added two RPG miniadventures from Wizards of the Coast, "Rebel Jedi" and "Nightsaber" which can be downloaded online for free.  While this site doesn't usually feature RPG adventure stories, "Rebel Jedi" features Luke Skywalker in a speaking role (and "Nightsaber" is the direct sequel to that adventure and features Crimson Empire hero Kir Kanos.)  These adventures occur in the year 12 ABY in the New Republic era.

10/18/06 Added placement for upcoming webstrip: Evasive Action: End Game.  For more information on the fourth and final installment of this series, click here.

10/12/06 Added notes and cover images for Lullaby and two privately printed manuscripts, Rosine and the Laughing Dragon and Beany in Oz.

10/08/06 A new Boba Fett trade paperback called Man with a Mission is being released in March which will collect Boba Fett: Agent of Doom, Empire 7, Empire 28 and Boba Fett: Overkill.

9/21/06 Dan Wallace's short SW Adventure Journal story, "The Most Dangerous Foe" is finally available online at Hyperspace.

9/11/06 Added entry for the upcoming Clone Wars 3D animated series that will debut in 2008.  Also, after a hiatus, Hyperspace is back to reprinting short fiction.  This time 'round, "Do No Harm" (from Tales from the Empire and the Adventure Journal #10.)  Hyperspace members click here to read it.

9/09/06 Just noticed that Crimson Empire #0 is available again online.  Click the link to check it out.  Also, changed placement of "Darkness Shared" to after the upcoming Darth Bane novel (which may include these events.)  Also updated Ewoks chronology entry for a better understanding of the placement on the timeline.

9/03/06 Rearranged the placement of two Boba Fett stories due to new information and a closer look.  First up is Tales #7: "Outbid but not Outgunned" which I'd placed far too late.  This is the tale of Sintas Vel, the Kiffar bounty hunter to whom Fett was married for a short time (and from whom their child Ailyn Vel came.)  Abel Pena and Karen Traviss reveal more closely the Fett dysfunctional family saga.  Fett and Sintas were married 16BBY.  Ailyn was born a year later (15BBY).  Fett left Sintas two years later (13BBY).  Sintas is killed when Ailyn is 16 years old (1ABY).  This knowledge is enormously helpful but doesn't exactly nail down the events of the Tales story in question wherein Fett runs into Sintas again and helps her retrieve a memento from Ailyn's birth other than the fact that it must be somewhere between 13BBY and 1ABY.  Clearly Sintas is an adult in this story so it must be later on.  To add resonance to the tale and Fett's callous behavior in it, I placed it in the 3-0 (BBY) as I imagine it occurring some time shortly before her death.  Now as regards the Tales #18 story, "Being Boba Fett" I had that placed far too earlier, as apparently I'd  missed the extensive scarring on Fett's face and body (which he received as a result of his Sarlacc ingestion).  Again, an exact placement after ROTJ and before 20ABY is highly speculative.  I chose to place it in the period 8ABY, after his dealings with the Bounty Hunters Guild (which the story shows he clearly isn't using) but before the Thrawn years and his revelation to Han in Dark Empire.

Added short story to The Chronology of Middle Earth.  Professor Jared Lobdell's "A Sudden Coming, Being a Story of Later Time" was first published in the book England and Always: Tolkien's Word of the Rings and later in the The World of the Rings.  An historian of Edwardian literature, Tolkien and Lewis, Lodbell has corresponded with Christopher Tolkien, Tolkien's publishers and Tolkien himself over the years, and it seemed fitting that his short prequel to "A New Shadow" (Tolkien's abandoned chapter that might have been the sequel to the Lord of the Rings) be included on the timeline.

Added stories of the latest Clone Wars Adventures digest (vol. 6) to the History and Rise of the Empire era.  These were a bit harder to place than the usual storyline (which is often more narrowly delineated) so there's quite a bit of "guesstimation" going on based on little clues and the occasional leap of logic with stories like "It Takes a Thief" "The Drop" "To the Vanishing Point" and "Means and Ends."  Thanks to Narcranor for some tips on the Dark Horse boards!

7/13/06 In the Rise of the Empire section, broke down the Lucasarts video game Republic Commando to better differentiate between the three different missions which occur at three different times during the span of the Clone Wars.  Thanks to Paul Myers (www.clonewarz.com) and Eddie (Starwarstimeline.net) for helping in that.  Divided Shatterpoint to show exactly where the short story "Equipment" belongs in the midst of it. 2/20/06 Added Jeff Rester's new short story Dreaming in a Scarlet Slumber (available from the author) to mainline timeline in Royal Timeline of Oz.  Incorporated Denslow's Scarecrow and Tinman short story into The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, but it's a tenuous fit at best and will reevaluate its place in the Royal Timeline as soon as Hungry Tiger Press ships their new volume of Denslow Oz strips from 1904.  Created new place just for Oz news.  You can now find it on the News and New Releases page.

2/05/06 Paul Ens and Tom Hodges' upcoming Star Wars webstrip has been announced as Evasive Action: Prey.  Available to hyperspace members, it debuts in March.  Pablo Hidalgo's new webstrip starts next week.  Called "Rookiees," it follows a group of inexperience Rebels during the era of the Classic Trilogy.

Added my new essay, The Jedi Code to the Reckoning page.

2/03/05 Added cover image of the upcoming Star Wars Omnibus volume.  The Omnibus series are oversized trade paperbacks that will eventually reprint all the Dark Horse titles under different Omnibus editions in chronological sequence.  The first up collects the early X-Wing issues.

1/31/06 Tim Zahn's Outbound Flight is available today.  This story at last wraps up the mystery of Jorus C'Baoth's tragic Outbound Flight Project which we all know went awry.  Aaron Allston's short story "The Pengalon Tradoff," originally published in Insider #65, is now available online at Hyperspace.  Also, I updated the New Jedi Order section including links of the first three chapters of Emissary of the Void to their new location on the Official site.

I've moved X-Wing: Rogue Leader #1-3 to the place where it fits most appropriately, namely right before X-Wing: Rogue Squadron #1.  This placement follows the internal continuity of the story and not the erroneous timeline date stamped inside each of the three issues which indicates it occurs a week after ROTJ and just after Truce at Bakura.  This ridiculous dating not only squeezes Truce into less than one week, but it crams all of the post-ROTJ Marvel stories (81-107) into less than 2 weeks!  Whoever edited that miniseries should, in the future, be far more careful in their research.  Herein, that date-placement is being ignored.

1/25/06 Ok, back to business: the short story from Tales from the Empire and WEG's Adventure Journal is online at Hyperspace.  You can read "Blaze of Glory" here.  Also, the About page has been modified, this time I've expanded the article, Fantasy: A Brief Introduction and included more material on the often conflicting position of Christians and Fantasy.

1/01/06 With the new year upon us, I made some major changes to the Reckoning page.  The new look is far more in line with what I had envisioned for the page as well as for the entire site.  The marriage of art and literature, color and text, is something that I believe is important for this site.  I recognize that those still on dial-up (of which I remain) have difficulty with JPEG heavy sites, but I feel the trade-off is worth the extra few seconds, and with more of you converting to cable, DSL and FIOS, this becomes less and less of a factor.  After all, this is not a news site (although I do occasionally post news) and there are no commercial interests (although I do make a few pennies from Amazon clicks).  So I have no interest in following the trend of modern sites that forsake image and design for the sake of efficiency.  To do so would be to betray the whole point of this website which is intended a tribute to the glory of Fantasy, Science Fiction and Horror in literature and illustration.

12/29/05 Added new Oz book, Bill and the Purple Cow to the Deadly Desert section.

12/27/05 Added 'Star Wars: Galactic Phrase Book & Travel Guide' entry and cover image to History and New Republic pages.

11/26/05 In the Sith Era, altered dates for The Knights of the Old Republic comics and game to more accurately reflect dates in Insider #85.  Added cover image of new Karen Traviss story in Insider #85.  In the Rise of the Empire era, added the new Insider story and rearranged some placements following Revenge of the Sith.

11/07/05 Added title of eight Clone Wars Trade paperback, The Last Siege, The Final Truth (February release date) to the Rise of the Empire and History section.

11/02/05 After nearly four weeks of no phone service – hence no Internet access, I'm finally back online.  Posted updated cover images of Dorothy #4 (in the Dark Side of Oz page), as well as new Star Wars titles: Clone Wars Adventures #4, Empire #36 and Republic #78.  Added review and cover images of The New Essential Chronology. and fine-tuned certain dates based on the chronology presented in that back (eg., Dooku's start of training at age 13 is moved from 88 to 89 BBY; the game Knights of the Old Republic is now set at 3856 BBY; Darth Maul: Saboteur was moved to 33 BBY; Outbound Flight Project was moved to 27 BBY; dates are slightly altered in the Era of Rebellion and New Republic sections; LucasArts two Jedi Knight games were moved to 12 and 14 ABY respectively).  Added continuity fix for Marvel Annual #1.  Added continuity fix for Jango Fett: Open Seasons and date entry for issue 4.  Added continuity fix for Marvel #68.  Added continuity fix for Young Jedi Knights: Fall of the Diversity Alliance. Fixed the continuity notes for Jude Watson's Jedi Apprentice series and more narrowly delineated the time frames in the Rise of the Empire/History pages.  Added link to online Planet of Kadril and Frozen World of Ota strips.  As per the New Essential Chronology, the official dating system retains the BBY/ABY standard.  Thus, as year designations are strongly implied, this timeline has eliminated the unnecessary abbreviation for "year" and "years" (yr and yrs) from the date entries.

10/10/05 Made several minor updates to Parallel Histories page in Oz site.  On Star Wars site, updated 0-3 year period in the Era of Rebellion and History.

10/03/05 In the Royal Timeline of Oz, changed dates for Harry Mongold's Button Bright of Oz and Sawhorse of OzButton Bright has no specific time frame mentioned and works better prior to Lost Boy of OzSawhorse was originally written in 1973 and therefore could not have occurred eight years later (as I'd originally had it).

On the Star Wars Timeline, added an essay and continuity note on the unpublished Russ Manning newspaper strip posthumously titled, "The Depths of Kashyyyk." Added the proper title of the one-shot comic "Star Wars: A Valentine Story" to the entry; it's actual title is "Breaking the Ice."  Several changes in the Era of Rebellion have taken place.  I've moved "Weapons Master" to just before Splinter of the Mind's Eye.  Moved "River of Chaos" #1-4, the newspaper strips, "The Depths of Kashyyyk," and "The Constancia Affair," along with The Holiday Special to after Star Wars Missions #8.  Moved Tales #8: "Captain Threepio" to after Devilworlds #2: "The Pandora Effect."  Moved Marvel #38: "Riders in the Void" to before Star Wars 3D #3: "The Dark Side of Dantooine."  These changes and more were necessitated by Lucasfilm's mandate that the Rebels departed their Yavin 4 base in six months.  While they were not able to settle on Echo Base on Hoth for many months to come, the Rebels kept their fleet in space in the Hoth system or hidden in temporary bases while Luke, Han, Leia and company continued to go on missions.  Thus, fewer time is available for stories to have taken place in the six month timeframe following the destruction of the Death Star.  Any appropriate story that does not specifically state the Rebels' base is on Yavin 4 has been moved to the post six month time period after the departure of Yavin 4.  Likely more changes are in store as I continue to research this period again for the best possible placements.

10/01/05 In Star Wars Timeline, added placement and cover images of X-Wing Rogue Leader #1, and Empire #34 and #35.

9/26/05 Added cover image of Star Wars Tales vol. 6 (which will include Tales #21-24).  Added correct date for upcoming Legacy series and title of second book in the trilogy (thanks to Karen Traviss!).  As of yet, Lumiya cannot be discussed.

Added new upcoming title by Mark E. Haas in the Upcoming Releases section.  Updated info: A Million Miles from Oz is now available to order from TOTLAF. Added J. L. Bell's new short Oz tale to the 1916 period of the mainline timeline.  Changed a few lines in Time Travelers and Lost Boy to make them better fit with established continuity, and added to the notes.  Added rough history of the Phanfasms to Appendices page.

Updated Reckoning page.

9/22/05 Added The Lost Boy of Oz to Oz site.  Gave that and Time Travelers their own pages with banner links to them on the New Oz Tales page.  Moved Emerald Ring to Parallel Histories page.

4/24/05 Verizon put me back on line so you can finally check out all my latest updates for the past week!  Added listing for the upcoming trade: Clone Wars Volume 6: On the Fields of Battle in the Rise of the Empire and History sections.  Added some cover images and did some retooling to my new Reckoning page.

7/22/05 Well, you guys still aren't seeing my updates, but I just keep adding them anyway.  Let's see if Verizon shows up tomorrow to fix the phones!  I finally added Reckoning (which replaces the lamely titled 'Personal Thoughts' page which shows just how rushed I can sometimes be).  Reckoning is my "recommended reading" list (focusing appropriately on Fantasy/Sci-Fi/Horror/Gothic/etc.).  It's also the place where I'll put my miscellaneous reviews, essays and various musings.  As I'm not prolific enough to keep a blog, it's a non-blog blog.  Or whatever.  It's what it is.  It's Reckoning.  To celebrate Reckoning, I've completely overhauled my AboutTimelineUniverse page.  It's less-than-satisfactory presentation (which has always plagued me despite minor changes) has been entirely redone, and I've even rewritten a large portion of it.

7/21/05 Trouble with Verizon phone lines prevented my recent two updates from appearing on the dates updated.  Let's hope it's cleared up soon.  Posted covers and titles for the upcoming Star Wars: Dark Nest books II: The Unseen Queen and III: The Swarm War.
